An event where visitors can wander around to see what the country's food industry is up to is in full swing.
Under the theme "Beautiful Food and Delicious Art,” the Korea Food Expo 2008 is currently underway in southern Seoul from Oct. 13 through 19.
Organized by the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the food expo at the aT Center in Yangjae-dong showcases numerous agricultural and aquaculture products of Korea along with a diverse range of events.
One such event will explore which foods have found favor with Koreans, and which food products have appeared over the last forty years, through an exhibition presenting the recent history of agricultural, livestock, aquaculture and dairy products in Korea.
The exhibition also focuses on making a prediction about what the next favorite agricultural or aquaculture products might be in the future.
In addition, visitors have an opportunity to learn about the process of cultivating rice and a variety of rice products, as well as diverse foods from the ocean.
And of course, as one might expect, like other food expos, there are lots of fabulous food items to sample.
Some of the other events going on during the expo are table setting contests, food magic shows, food art therapy zones, traditional dance performances, and cooking shows and contests.
Hoping to promote Korean food among international markets, the expo will feature a range of traditional dishes unique to each province.
To further raise the profile of Korean food on the international stage, a special event is scheduled for Oct. 16.
The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries will declare its ambitious plan to globalize Korean food and eventually make it one of the world's five top cuisines.
To that end, there will be special exhibits related to the standardization and globalization of Korean food.
